Re: Jim Broadbent
He was right to turn down the Del Boy role. It wouldn't have suited him. His Slater character was superb though. Slater the Slag!

I met him in the Millers before a match a few years back (Tony Grounds brought him along).
A real gent as I remember.

Cool story, I know.

Re: Jim Broadbent
One of the finest Broadbent moments was in a very little remembered Ben Elton sitcom called 'Happy Families'. It was the first BBC sitcom he wrote alone, I think it aired in 1985 (which I think was the same year as Blackadder II?)

Anyway, it was mostly hit and miss however there was one episode called 'Madeline' which was about the funniest piece of sitcom I have ever seen.

He played a well known poet who was actually a pervert who used his artistic talents to seduce young girls. He was fucking brilliant in it, the whole episode is fucking brilliant. Rik Mayall (RIP) played a jealous (because he was also a pervert) catholic priest and was fucking brilliant also, as ever.

Never been repeated.
